Bairro Alto, Bica and Santa Catarina
Come visit the most typical neighborhoods of the city of Lisbon.
The Bairro Alto was born in the place where Vila Nova de Andrade was built in 1513. It was the first “modern district” of the city, built for its walls. Just in front, on the south slope, towards the river, the neighborhood of Bica is born, its name is inspired by a fountain of the neighborhood. Santa Catarina is next to these two neighborhoods, and its name is due to the existing church there. Nowadays these three neighborhoods are considered the cool zone of the city. Populated by bars, restaurants, designer shops, the city’s teeming zone of life and fun.
