The Palace of Mafra is a monumental Baroque palace and monastery. Construction began in 1717 and was completely concluded in 1755. The Palace was built as a consequence of a vow the king John V made if his wife gave him offspring.
This palace’s highlights are the majestic rooms for the royal occupancy and the curious monastery that used to share walls with the royal palace.
