The construction of this building resulted from the will of Infanta D. Maria, daughter of King D. Manuel, to create a convent of religious of the Order of Saint Benedict of Avis, under the invocation of Our Lady of the Incarnation. Built in the reign of Philip II of Portugal, the ensemble underwent major changes in the eighteenth century. With the extinction of religious orders in 1834, the convent was transformed into Recollection of the Incarnation, which, from 1945, integrated the Recollections of the Capital. This building is currently guarded by the Misericórdia of Lisbon.
